We welcome applicants from North America into our undergraduate and graduate degrees in Psychology. If you are from North America and are interested in studying psychology at UCD please contact Dr Louise McHugh <louise.mchugh@ucd.ie> to discuss this further.
You will not be disappointed if you come to UCD. Not only is Dublin a great place to study in, but our school was ranked in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Top 100 university Psychology Departments in the world in recent years. We pride ourselves on our student-centred approach to teaching and learning as well as the international impact of our research and scholarship.
If you are finishing high school and want to major in psychology in Ireland, UCD is the place for you. Our 3-year full-time Honours BA in Psychology is fully accredited by the Psychological Society of Ireland and is equivalent to a bachelors degree from a competitive North American university. Our graduates have been accepted at graduate schools around the world.
An exciting feature of our degree is that there are many international opportunities through our network of exchanges. Our exchange partners include the Université Catholique de l'Ouest, Angers in France, the Universidad Pontificia Comillas, Madrid in Spain, the Frei Universitat Berlin, Germany, the University of Groningen, Netherlands and Georgetown University, Washington DC. Please note that studying abroad will add another year to your degree programme, and this four year degree is called the Honours BA International in Psychology.
If you majored in a subject other than psychology, and are now considering a masters or doctorate in psychology, then the UCD Higher Diploma in Psychology (H Dip Psych) is the right choice for you. This two-year intensive programme gives a qualification equivalent to a psychology major. It is fully accredited by the Psychological Society of Ireland and provides the groundwork for advanced degrees in psychology. Students with a UCD H Dip Psych have been accepted onto masters and doctoral programmes in psychology around the world.
If you majored in psychology, and want to pursue graduate studies, our Masters in Psychological Science (M Psych Sc) may be of interest to you. In this one-year taught masters programme you will learn basic applied psychology skills to equip you for doctoral studies in clinical, counselling, educational or organizational psychology.
If you want to train as a clinical psychologist, you may wish to apply for our three-year Doctor of Psychological Science (D Psych Sc) in clinical psychology which is fully accredited by the Psychological Society of Ireland. This 36-month programme includes clinical internships, course work and research components.
If you have worked in the disability field and want to pursue graduate studies in this area, the MSc in Rehabilitation and Disability Studies (MSc) will be of interest to you. This is a two-year part-time programme and applicants are required to hold a voluntary or paid position with a disability organisation for the duration of the course.
Students may also conduct MLitt / PhD research under the supervision of any of our academic staff. Please contact them directly to receive advice on how this can be arranged.
