Disability Studies courses
The MSc Rehabilitation & Disability Studies is a two-year part time taught postgraduate degree. It is open to those who wish to pursue further study in the area of professional service provision to a range of client groups.
The course adopts a broad definition of disability and so will be of interest to individuals working in physical/sensory disability, intellectual disability, mental health and related sectors. Central to this programme is the emerging field of disability studies - the interdisciplinary and scholarly exploration of all aspects of disability. Disability Studies comprises three core themes: the history of disability; experiences of disability; and an array of policy, social, rehabilitative and other interventions
The course aims to support students to develop an understanding of disability and rehabilitation theory, research and practice, both at a national and international level. Thanks to the input of experienced researchers and practitioners students will be exposed to current best practice in the disability sector, acquiring conceptual and practical skills, which will inform professional practice.
Students on the course come from and return to many of Ireland’s leading disability service providers. Graduates also go on to further training in professions such as clinical psychology, education, etc. and others go on to pursue postgraduate research (Masters and PhD).
