Minister Launches Clinical and Positive Psychology books
On Monday 16th of April 2012 April Frances Fitzgerald, Minister for Children and Youth Affairs launched 2 books by Professor Alan Carr, from the UCD School of Psychology: Clinical Psychology: In Introduction and Positive Psychology: The Science of Happiness and Human Strengths. IIn her address Minister Fitzgerald said ‘During these times of austerity there is a need to become resilient in the face of adversity and to understand how to do this. Alan Carr’s book on positive psychology addresses this very issue.’ She went on to comment on the important role that the UCD doctoral programme in clinical psychology has played in training clinical psychologists for the Irish health service and said ‘This introductory book on Clinical Psychology which we are launching today will inform undergraduates who want to pursue a career in this field about how best to proceed and give them an insight into the day-to-day practices of clinical psychologists’. Professor Brian Nolan, Principal of the College of Human Sciences, thanked the Minister for coming back to her alma mater, where she trained as a social worker for the book launch.
