Christine O’Farrelly’s project is entitled:  ‘Where do I fit in here? Examining the impact of transitions on children's adjustment in early childhood care and education settings.’  The aim of the study is to understand which child and environmental characteristics influence changes in children’s stress patterns and adjustment following moves to new classrooms in early childhood care and education settings (ECCE). Specifically, the study is looking at service quality, children’s temperament and gender and whether these variables predict changes in children’s stress patterns and adjustment following a move to a new classroom. A short-term longitudinal study will be carried out following 50 children as they transition from penultimate to ultimate classrooms in ECCE settings. This study has been informed by the findings of two previous studies, which suggest that transitions can be stressful times for children. The present study will provide important information to inform the development of targeted services to help children capitalise on the benefits that ECCE offer.  For further information please contact Christine O’Farrelly christine.ofarrelly@ucd.ie
