The UCD Centre for Disability Studies in conjunction with the UCD School of Nursing, Midwifery & Health Systems and the UCD Geary Institute co-hosted a seminar by Prof Charles E. Drum, Oregon Health & Science University on November 16th 2017. “Addressing Local Access Barriers for Individuals with Disabilities with the Community Engagement Initiative (CEI ): From Practice-Based Evidence to Knowledge Translation Research”. Prof Charles Drum’s presentation detailed evidenced-based grassroots community coalition process called the Community Engagement Initiative (CEI) which aims to identify local access barriers experienced by persons with disabilities through a process of Town Hall Meetings for persons with disabilities, families, and other caregivers. Delegates discussed the possibilities of introducing this type of collaborative work within the Irish context

Cliodhna O’Connor was recently awarded the Stress and Anxiety Research Student Development Award for her paper measuring the psychometric properties of the Social Anxiety Scale for Adolescents.  The Stress and Anxiety Research Society is a multidisciplinary, international organisation of researchers who share an interest in problems of stress, coping and anxiety with members from more than 35 countries.  Cliodhna will travel to Croatia this summer to present her research at the annual conference and to be presented with her award.

UCD Psychology journal retains its top world ranking by impact factor

According to the latest Thomson Reuters Impact Factors (released in June 2015), the International Review of Sport and Exercise Psychology (IRSEP, published by Routledge/Taylor & Francis), an academic journal from the UCD School of Psychology edited by Prof Aidan Moran, has an impact factor of 4.526 for 2014 – representing an increase of 1.173 or 35% on last year’s figure (3.353 for 2013).

The UCD Centre for Disability Studies in conjunction with the UCD School of Nursing, Midwifery & Health Systems and the UCD Geary Institute co-hosted a seminar by Prof Charles E. Drum, Oregon Health & Science University on November 16th 2017. “Addressing Local Access Barriers for Individuals with Disabilities with the Community Engagement Initiative (CEI ): From Practice-Based Evidence to Knowledge Translation Research”. Prof Charles Drum’s presentation detailed evidenced-based grassroots community coalition process called the Community Engagement Initiative (CEI) which aims to identify local access barriers experienced by persons with disabilities through a process of Town Hall Meetings for persons with disabilities, families, and other caregivers. Delegates discussed the possibilities of introducing this type of collaborative work within the Irish context

The UCD Centre for Disability Studies celebrated its 21st birthday with a full day seminar on Disability and Ethnic Minority on Friday 28th July in the William Fry Theatre, UCD Sutherland School of Law. Throughout the day self-advocates, researchers, practitioners, policy advisors and service providers heard from a wide variety of speakers and delegates.  The conference was opened with a warm welcome to UCD by Associate Professor Christine Linehan, Director of the UCD Centre for Disability Studies and Prof Colin Scott, Principal of the College of Social Science and Law.
