International Exchanges
Many psychology students choose to spend a year abroad as part of their studies. Because of the need for professional recognition of the three-year BA Psychology degree, the year abroad must be taken as an extra year. However, UCD provides recognition for this extra year in the form of a four-year degree BA (International) Psychology.International exchanges are based on bilateral agreements between universities and so students would normally be expected to study at one of our partner universities. The School of Psychology currently has five partner universities (see right)
These exchanges are exclusively for psychology students. The numbers on all of them are limited but our partners are usually flexible about taking additional students should the need arise. Because of this, we have almost always been able to find a place for students at their university of first choice. No guarantees can be provided, however, since the demand for places varies from year to year.
In addition to these psychology-specific places, UCD has more general exchange agreements with a large number of universities in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland and the USA. These places are more difficult to obtain since they are open to students from several schools at UCD. Having said that, psychology students have a very good track record in obtaining places on these exchanges. Further information about international exchanges, including a complete list of the exchanges that are open to psychology students, can be found on the web pages of the International Office. Anyone who is thinking of going on an international exchange would be well advised to look at this information.
If you have any further questions about international exchanges, please feel free to contact the International Exchange Coordinator for the School of Psychology, Dr. Adrian Brock on (01) 716-8678 or adrian.c.brock@ucd.ie.
