Biography

John Geary is Professor of Industrial Relations and Human Resources at UCD School of Business and Honorary Professor at the Marco Biagi Foundation, Università di Modena e Reggio Emilia, Italy. He is a graduate of NUI Maynooth and studied for his D.Phil (Sociology) at Nuffield College, University of Oxford. In the past, John worked at Warwick Business School, held visiting professorships at the Università di Modena e Reggio Emilia and at the Department of Economics, University of Oslo. He was also Jean Monnet Fellow at the European University Institute (EUI), Florence. He was the first Director of UCD's College of Business and Law Graduate School and, until recently, was Director of Doctoral Studies at the UCD Michael Smurfit School of Business. He is an Academic Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. He has published in the leading journals in the field of work and employment relations, including Industrial Relations: A Journal of Economy and Society (Berkeley); The British Journal of Industrial Relations; Human Relations, Human Resource Management Journal; Industrial Relations Journal; International Journal of Human Resource Management; Journal of International Business Studies; Work, Employment and Society; and Economic and Industrial Democracy. He is the author of the book Partnership at Work: The Quest for Radical Organizational Change (with Bill Roche), Oxford: Routledge, 2006. He has contributed to the coverage of news stories on work and employment on TV and radio, including RTEs Prime Time and This Week programmes, and in The Irish Times and the Industrial Relations News. His areas of research interest include work and employment, employment practices and human resource management in multinational companies, employee voice, union organisation and pay determination.
