Biography

Dr Esther Tippmann is Associate Professor  in Strategy and International Business. Before joining UCD, she was a visiting Research Fellow at Grenoble Ecole de Management, France. She studied in Ireland and Germany.

Esther's research and teaching interests revolve around the strategic challenges of internationally operating organizations with a particular emphasis on knowledge development and problem solving in multinational corporations. She has worked closely with several multinational corporations in Ireland, France, UK and the US on case studies and research projects.

She regularly presents her research at leading international conferences and has been published in the Journal of International Business Studies, Organization Studies, Journal of World Business, Journal of Management Studies and Long Range Planning. Her research received several honours, including awards from the Academy of Management and Academy of International Business (UKI Chapter). She held a Marie-Curie Fellowship, funded by the European Commission and Irish Research Council for her Post-doctoral studies.

Esther has taught in the areas of Global Strategy, International Business, Strategic Management and Qualitative Research at post-graduate and PhD levels on internationally accredited programs in Ireland, Germany and France.

Research Interests

Esther's research agenda comprises three major areas:
  1. MNC problem solving: the managerial activities and organizational processes in response to organizational challenges and their impact on knowledge and capability development
  2. Subsidiary strategy and subsidiary development: the behaviours of subsidiary managers to shape the evolution of their subsidiary and increase value-added to the corporation
  3. Accelerated multinationalization: strategies of high-growth multinationals and technology firms seeking international expansion
