The EduBook is more than just a laptop, it is a technology solution for all Business Students software, hardware and support needs. The following lists some of the key advantages and preferential support available to you by purchasing a EduBook. High level customised support is given to students who purchase through this offer. This support is not available if you purchase any other laptop.

And Finally..

1.) Top of the Range Business laptop

The EduBook laptops offered are HP business laptops, they are built to last - these are the sort of laptops that major corporations buy. We view the laptop environment in the Business School to be the same as any corporate business environment – you need your laptop to be robust and reliable and provide trouble free use - day in and day out. Hence, the laptops on offer are from HP's range of business computers. Do not confuse these laptops with the cheaper and far less robust consumer ranges that HP/Compaq also offer.

2.) Full 3 Year Warranty and Accidental Damage Protection

Remembering that IT issues are not accepted by lecturers as a reason for late submission of assignments; 3 year Next Business Day + Accidental Damage protection is standard in the EduBook package. This means that if a piece of hardware is identified as being faulty, or you have physically damaged your laptop* a new part is supplied and installed within 48 hours. If the replacement part does not arrive on time or you need to urgent access to a laptop, a temporary replacement laptop from spares will be supplied to you (see the Laptop Replacement Scheme section below).
Its worth noting that Next Business Day Warranty and ADP is generally not offered on consumer laptop purchased from retail stores. Most retail stores offer a 1 year Collect and Return warranty. In the event of a problem you need to be available to have the laptop collected from you, wait for it to be fixed and then be available when the laptop is returned to you. A collect and return warranty will usually mean that you will be without the use of your laptop for 5 to 7 working days.

3.) Onsite Engineers to Support Your EduBook

A HP Certified Technician is on site in the Quinn School, Monday to Friday during term time- no need to make an appointment, call in when it suits you. If you have a problem you can just bring your EduBook to the support centre. The aim is simple - a quick turnaround on all software and hardware repairs to your laptop.

4.) EduBook Loan Replacement Scheme

If we do need access to a laptop while it is being repaired, you can avail of the EduBook Loan Replacement scheme free of charge (terms & conditions do apply). This facility is only available to students who have purchased an EduBook. Students find this service very useful if they need a laptop during online assessments, assignment deadlines or the exam period.

5.) It's Your Laptop And It's UCD Ready

When you purchase an EduBook you can just open the box and its ready to go on the UCD network. The wired and wireless networks and web browsers are configured for instant internet access. All you have to do is collect your laptop at the start of the “Technology@Quinn” session.

This will be your laptop to do with as you please, there are no restrictions imposed on a these systems. We do not try to limit what you install on your laptop, although naturally, you need to be aware of licensing and copyright implications when installing software. It is nice to know though, that when the latest and greatest version of your favourite software makes a mess of your laptop, you can have it fixed onsite in Quinn! Should it be necessary, we have the ability to reinstall the entire software suite (Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, printing services, network etc.) in only 30 minutes. This can be done without affecting the important work which you have saved on your laptop. Just call in to the ILTG office & we will do the rest.
A customised software installation is carried out in the HP factory on all laptops purchased through the offer. A long process of testing is undertaken by ILTG to ensure that you can take your laptop out of the box on day one and have everything working.
