What we do

The Academic Secretariat is a key support unit for students and staff, with both a strategic development and committee secretariat remit. The Unit provides advice and support to staff involved in new programme development and curriculum review and design, and collaborates with academic staff and students on the development of academic regulations and policy which underpin the academic governance of the University’s educational provision. The unit also provides professional secretariat support to the Academic Council and its committees.

The Academic Secretariat is committed to promoting and facilitating the University’s objectives of excellence in educational management and governance by:

• developing clear policy, in collaboration with the university community and informed by good practice examples in the sector
• supporting and guiding the academic community in the development of  programmes,  and establishing and implementing programme structures
• providing committee and electoral support to Academic Council and a number of its committees and working groups
• administering the management of student  discipline (academic misconduct).
