Introduction
The Academic Council (AC) oversees the University's academic activity. Academic Council's primary responsibilities (as defined by Statute) are to:
- Stimulate debate on major strategic and academic issues.
- Promote the highest standards of teaching and learning.
- Approve and review academic regulation and policy.
- Maintain oversight of education delivery and assessment.
- Advise the Governing Authority on academic matters.
Academic Council has delegated some of its specific decision-making responsibilities to sub-committees.

Membership
The membership and conduct of meetings is determined by:- Academic Council Regulation 1 - Membership
The Academic Council at its meeting of 12 December 2008 agreed the following be co-opted as members of Academic Council: Deputy Registrars, Supervisor of Examinations, Programme Deans and Graduate School Directors.
