ACADEMIC GOVERNANCE

Academic governance is a key element of the University’s organisational governance and management structure. The Academic Council is the University’s principal academic body and derives its authority from the Governing Authority, on whose behalf it administers the academic affairs of the University.

Academic Council is responsible for supporting the delivery of the University’s strategic educational objectives, through the approval and review of academic regulation and policy, and by maintaining oversight and monitoring of education delivery and assessment. Under the provisions of Statute 6, Academic Council may delegate its functions to any committee it wishes to establish and to this end has established a number of committees and boards to support the fulfilment of its overall responsibilities. Some Academic Council Committees act in an advisory capacity to Academic Council whilst others exercise delegated decision-making power on behalf of the Academic Council.

The Academic Council Register of Authority (including Delegated Authority) can be accessed here. Please note that some key functions of Academic Council Committees have been reassigned to alternative committees - click here to view list.
