Curriculum Management & Timetabling
This page is intended primarily to provide information on Curriculum Management & Timetabling to UCD staff. Please click on the tabs above for further information relating to Curriculum Management.
The focus of the Curriculum Management & Timetabling team is on facilitating and managing the capture of curriculum information via the Curriculum Management System (CMS), the configuration of relevant systems, the set up of new Majors and Programmes and the publication of curriculum information through timetabling and the curriculum browser.
The work done by this team facilitates the linkage of all information gathered via the CMS – Module descriptors, Majors, Minors and Programme Information – and ensures that the data is accessible online by students and staff in a variety of formats.
The primary business of the Curriculum Management Team occurs during the Information Capture & Curriculum Management (ICCM) season, which runs annually from spring to summer. Further details on all aspects of ICCM – including timelines – are available by clicking on any of the tabs above.

Curriculum Management Review – Autumn 2012
Context for Review
As part of Administrative Services’ ongoing efforts to improve our service, we are undertaking a review of curriculum management in UCD. This review will look at both the process and the system.
A managed curriculum is central to a number of processes and systems in the University – including programme approval and development, timetabling, assessment, fee setting, curriculum and programme review, curriculum publishing and online registration. The timelines that are used during the curriculum management cycle are intended to ensure that these elements can be delivered in a timely manner.
The Curriculum Management System (CMS) was introduced in the spring of 2009, enabling staff across the University to manage their curricular information online – including module descriptors, majors and programmes.
While CMS users were surveyed in autumn 2009, the process of curriculum management has not been substantially reviewed since then, save for input arising from the annual Review of Registration, which provides feedback to enable our planning and development.
Process of Review
Feedback from the 2009 survey indicated that module coordinators, as a group, would prefer to provide feedback in the early summer immediately following the main curriculum management season.
Our review at this time will therefore seek inputs from our School and Programme colleagues – who do significant work in managing curricular information across the University. This includes, but is not limited to, requesting new modules; reviewing and managing module information (semester, capacity, module coordinator); editing majors; locking majors on programmes against further edit; managing capacity, etc.
A short survey aims to gather feedback on patterns of use of the Curriculum Management System and associated processes, focusing on the timelines used, and the support available to assist Schools and Programmes.
The information gathered will be summarised and will provide key inputs to our planning for the coming year and to the Review of Registration.
In addition, we intend to carry out a functional review of our business processes, including: Opening/closing cycle for the module descriptor; operational/analytic information available; ‘Creation’ of majors/modules and the timeline required for supporting Online applications; Annual roll and update of existing structures.
Timelines
It is intended to run the review process through October, to conclude in early November 2012. The survey will be open from Wednesday 10th October to Wednesday 17th October at 10am.
