- Where can I collect my grant cheque?
-
You can sign for and collect your maintenance grant cheque at the Student Desk, Tierney Building, Belfield Campus. You must present a current/valid UCD Student Card. Note that a number of the county councils have moved to Electronic Funds Transfer ( EFT ) – this will means no cheque is issued and the funds are transferred from the authority / county council straight to your nonimated bank account. To date EFT’s are used by Dublin City Council , Dun Laoghaire/ Rathdown , Fingal CC, South Dublin CC and City of Dublin VEC. A list of grants available for collection is posted on our website
- My Grant Cheque is not available. What should I do?
-
Contact the relevant Local Authority/County Council / VEC to find out when it will be forwarded to Administrative Services - Fees & Grants, Tierney Building for collection.
- I have lost my grant cheque - What do I do?
-
Contact the relevant Local Authority/County Council / VEC who will have to cancel and re-issue the cheque. They will forward a replacement cheque for collection at the Student Desk, Tierney Building. Re-issuing a cheque may take some time so it is wise to lodge your cheque immediately to avoid any problems.
- When are maintenance cheques received by UCD?
-
Normally cheques are received ready for collection in September, January and April. When exact dates for each term are known, they will be published here for your easy reference.
- What about the student centre levy?
-
If you are receiving a maintenance grant you must first pay the student centre level (€158) in 2011/12 before you can receive any cheques. This is because the €158.00 payment officially registers you to UCD.
- Can maintence cheques/grants be posted out?
-
These will not be posted to students unless they are on an official ERASMUS or on placement away from UCD. They must be collected by the student in person with a valid student card.
- What if I have already paid my fees and am subsequently awarded a grant?
-
Any refund due to you will be payable once UCD has been paid in full from the relevant Local Authority/County Council / county council.
- On the SIS student web, it says that the grant authority has already paid for my fees?
-
When you bring in your grant approval letter to the student desk in Tierney Building on campus here in UCD, the fees office puts the student up on the system as having received a grant. This credits your account on the system with the amount that the grant authority has agreed to pay on that date. In some cases, this may look like you are in credit. The reason for this is to ensure that you don’t get fee bills. When the Local Authority/County Council/county council concerned pay your fees, you will get any refund if it is due.
Withdrawing, Deferring, Taking a year out
- I am leaving my Programme at UCD. What should I do?

You may also wish to speak to a Student Adviser if you are having difficulties: http://www.ucd.ie/advisers/

- I paid a deposit for a programme but did not register. Can I get a refund?

In normal circumstances deposits are non-refundable unless otherwise stated in your Letter of Offer. An acceptance deposit secures a place in your name. If you do not take up the place you deny another student access to it.

A rebate/refund will be issued when all registration is completed and when the Local Authority/County Council/VEC pays UCD on your behalf.

You will automatically receive a refund when the Local Authority/County Council/VEC pays UCD on your behalf.

-
Deposits are generally offset against tuition fees but check your Letter of Offer to ensure that this is the case as sometimes deposits are used to pay for course materials or extra activities.
- I am dissatisfied with my undergraduate programme choice and am considering withdrawing. How will this affect my 'Free Fees' entitlement?
-
You should speak to your Student Adviser and relevant Progamme Office for assistance / advice. If you decide to withdraw you must complete and sign a Withdrawal Form. You should also check with Administrative Services - Fees & Grants to see how a withdrawal might affect you financially if you choose to return to University at a later date.
