Undergraduates! Student Contribution, Student Centre Levy and Repeat/Resit fees 2012/13

The Student Contribution Charge for 2012/13
Confirmed at €2,250. All students on undergraduate 'free fees' programmes pay the Student Contribution Charge.

Reductions for second and subsequent children take place through the tax system i.e. all students must pay the full €2,250 (Unless awarded a grant).

The Student Centre Levy for 2012/13
Confirmed at €183.

Repeat/Resit fees for 2012/13
Remains the same as last year, at €230 per module.

Deadline for withdrawing from Modules – financial implication
The absolute deadline for withdrawing from a module is 19 October 2012. After this date the cost of the module will be offset against a student’s “free” fees credit. Where a student is fee-paying they will be liable for the cost.

When are my fees due to be paid?
By Monday, 10 September at the latest. You pay while registering online this August. Students may pay the Student Contribution Charge and the Student Centre Levy in two halves: - by the start of semester one and by the start of semester two. The combined payment is €2,433 (payable in the 2 halves).

SUSI - Student Universal Support Ireland - the new grant awarding agency

NEW COLLEGE, NEW COURSE = NEW SYSTEM

The CDVEC has set up a new dedicated unit called Student Universal Support Ireland (SUSI). Students will apply for their grant online by accessing www.studentfinance.ie.

Currently there are 66 awarding authorities (Local Authorities and VECs) processing student grants. The government sought to streamline this process by appointing a single awarding authority. Following a tendering process the Department of Education and Skills (DES), has nominated CDVEC as the single grant awarding authority in Ireland.

Students who are currently in receipt of a student grant and who are progressing to the next year of the same course will continue to be assessed and paid by the existing awarding authorities - i.e. the relevant Local Authority or Vocational Educational Committee. If you are changing your course or progressing to a new course you will need to apply to SUSI.

Payment of fees and charges - minimum payment

All continuing students are required to pay 50% of their total charges on or before the start of the semester i.e. 10 September 2012. If this minimum payment has not been paid students will be unable to complete registration and collect a UCard. The balance of charges are due at the start of the second semester.

Non Euro payments

Paying fees in non Euro currencies
This facility makes it easier for non-EU students to pay their fees from their home country.
It is especially useful if you require a visa to travel and/or study as this payment mechanism is closely aligned with the requirements of Department of Justice in Ireland.

Debt carry-over facility for continuing Undergraduate Students

If you are a continuing undergraduate
In 2012/13 we are introducing a debt carry-over facility for continuing undergraduate students. This new facility will allow students to carry a maximum debt of €600 into the new academic year without impacting on their registration for 2012/13. So, your 2012/13 fees (i.e. Student Contribution and Student Centre Levy) (but excluding resits and or repeats) will have the debt carry over amount added to it and you need to pay half of this overall amount by the start of semester 1. This table illustrates how it works.

Example 1 Example 2 Example 3
“Free fees” student “Free fees” student with grant Fee-paying student
Tuition Fee Paid by Free Fees Scheme Paid by Free Fees Scheme 6,000
2012/13 Student Contribution €2,250.00 Paid by Local Authority Incl.
2012/13 Student Centre levy €183.00 €183.00 Incl.
Debt carry-over €350.00 €500.00 €550.00
Total €2,783.00 €683.00 €6,550.00
50% due by 10 September €1,391.50 €341.50 €3,275.00

Students carrying more that €600 of debt will not be allowed to complete online registration for 2012/13 until they have paid off or reduced their previous year's debt to below €600.

If you have completed your degree this summer
You must pay off all fees and charges immediately. You will not be allowed access your results, transcripts and your graduation will be blocked.

If you are progressing to a postgraduate programme at UCD
You must pay off all fees and charges immediately. You will not be allowed access your results, transcripts and your graduation will be blocked. This may prevent the take-up of your place on a postgraduate programme.
