UCD Student Card
Your UCD student card is your official identification card for the duration of your programme in UCD.
If you're a returning UCD student, you will not have to queue for a new card in September. The student card you got last year is designed to last you for the duration of your programme in UCD.
To keep your card valid for 2010/11 all you need to do is register online when registration opens up for you and pay the minimum amount of fees you are required to pay for 2010/11. If you do not pay in time your card will be invalid and you will not, for example, be able to get into the Library.
Only new students or students changing programme (e.g. going from a Bachelor degree to a Masters) will be issued with a new card. For more information on this, visit our FAQ section.
There are many uses for your UCD student card on campus:
As well as being the single most important piece of ID you possess during your time here, your student card also gives you access to a range of university facilities including:
- access to the library
- the facility to borrow books from the library
- admission to UCD student facilities
In addition to this, your card will be accepted as official identification in the following situations:
- when required to confirm that you are a student in UCD (for example, to get a certificate of attendance or a form stamped at the Student Desk)
- if a member of staff requests it as proof of identity. A member of staff is also entitled to retain the card if they feel it necessary. However you must be provided with a receipt if this occurs
Your card may also be required in other circumstances and for access to other facilities. Please note that student cards are not required for access to Blackboard or for electronic journals on the library website.
Your card is non-transferable, and remains the property of the University at all times. If you decide to withdraw during the course of your programme, on either a permanent or a temporary basis, you must return your card.
Lost/stolen cards
It is important that you report a lost or stolen card immediately to the Student Desk in the Tierney Building. There is a fee of €30 for replacing lost cards.
If your card has been stolen, please bring a Garda Report verifying that it was stolen to the Student Desk and they will replace it free of charge. Click here for details of the on-campus Garda Office.
