Irish Leaving Certificate

To matriculate applicants must attain passes in six subjects (including 2 at minimum HC3) including the grades shown below in the specified subjects. Points are awarded on applicants' best results in not more than six individual subjects taken in the Leaving Certificate examination of any one year. (a)   Alternative selection procedure for Medicine was introduced in 2009.
In addition to the minimum requirements of the leaving certificate (a minimum of 480 points and subject requirements), an applicant must also complete the
HPAT-Ireland  admissions test. Please click here for further information.

(c)   Applicants for DN012 (Level 8 Arts) Shuold indicate one single two-subject preference from the table in the CAO Handbook. (Applicants can only apply for DN012 ONCE). It is possible to wait until registration to select subjects by selecting DN012. For further details please refer to the prospectus.

(d)  Indicates denominated entry into subject area within a degree programme. Transfer pathway to non denominated mode of that degree at end of Year 1 exists.
(e)  HC3 in one of Mathematics, Physics, or Applied Mathematics. If Physics is presented this fulfils the requirement for a Laboratory Science subject.
(f)  Home Economics (Social and Scientific) may be used to meet the Laboratory Science requirement for the BSc in Veterinary Nursing.
(g)  Applicants must be 20 years of age by 15 October following entry.
(h)  Fee Paying.
NB All programes may be fee paying in 2010.
(i)  Applicants who have failed their most recent examination in a similar programme may not be eligible.
(j)  Restricted Application - Application must be made by 1 February. However, applicants may add any of these courses (except DN011 and DN105) to their application at CAO Change of Mind time, provided they have already applied for the same course in another institutuion by 1 February.
(k)  From 2011 the Mathematics grade for DN020 will be HB1.
 
 §Note
Commerce International 2011:

Applicants to this programme will select two languages to study equally for the first semester, you can choose from the following list: Chinese, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish.You can select these languages using the codes shown in the prospectus.

Science 2011

Applicants who do not know which area of Science they will specialise in simply enter DN200 on the application form; they can decide on their area of study during their first year. Applicants who know which area they would like to study can select one specific area from the categories below and are guaranteed a place in a degree programme from within this area. You can apply for DN200 only once. Joint Degrees are available between some combinations of subjects.
BBB – Biological, Biomedical and Biomolecular Sciences
CCS – Chemistry and Chemical Sciences
MPS – Mathematical and Physical Sciences

Application  
Application for admission to undergraduate courses should be made via the Central Applications Office (CAO). Applications are considered for admission to the first year of full degree courses only. Forms are available on request from September each year, but application may also be made on-line

Mature Age Applicants  
There is a limited number of places available for mature applicants in most undergraduate degree programmes. Application is made via the Central Applications Office. Those seeking admission on grounds of mature years should contact the
Admissions Office  prior to making an application for full details of availability of courses, closing dates, etc.

Students who have previously attended college  
Any student who has previously attended a third-level institution may be subject to the transfer regulations of the University. Such students should see the
transfer section for further information .

Induction: Prospective students should note that the University holds induction events for Freshers in the week prior to the commencement of lectures. This involves registration, academic advisory meetings and social and orientation meetings. These meetings will commence from 6 September 2010.
