SCBDF0007 BSc GENERAL TOPICAL DEGREE EXAMINATION

 

The BSc General Topical Degree Examination is taken in 10 units made up of 8 core units and an additional 2 units. In units including practical and written examinations candidates may be debarred from passing on grounds of extreme weakness in one or other part of the unit. Honours will be awarded to candidates proceeding to the BSc Honours Topical Degree.

Honours Standard:

 

The Pass standard for each unit is 40%.

 

A pass by compensation may be granted at the discretion of the Board provided the candidate has passed at least 7 units including 5 core units, has an average of 40% in the core units and an overall average of 40%.

 

A candidate who has received a mark of 40% in any unit may be recommended by the Examiners for exemption from further examination in that unit.

 

Candidates who attain an average of 65% may be awarded the Degree with Distinction. Where an exemption is given a Distinction cannot be awarded.

 

SCBDF0008 BSc HONOURS TOPICAL DEGREE EXAMINATION

 

The BSc Honours Topical Degree Examination is taken in the year following completion of the BSc General Topical Degree.

Pass mark to be 40% with single deficiency compensation from 35%. Compensation will be granted in a maximum of two of the eight papers. A student may compensate in papers taken in either first or second year.

 

Students who obtain an average equal to or above 60% in the Diploma examinations and projects and where the marks do not fall below 50% in any paper, will be granted a Pass with Commendation. This shall apply only for the first attempt at the examination.

IFCTP0015 CERTIFICATE IN SAFETY AND HEALTH AT WORK

20% of the final marks for the Certificate are awarded on the basis of the first project.

20% of the final marks for the Certificate are awarded on the basis of the second project.

60% of the marks for the Certificate are awarded on the basis of the written examination.

A Certificate will be awarded to students who attain at least 50% of the total marks (written examination and two projects) provided a minimum of 35% (7/20) is obtained on each of the two projects and 45% (27/60) is obtained on the written examination.
