Dear Colleague,

As we head into the 2012-13 academic session, I would like to draw your attention to the following regulatory, policy and new programme development updates, and to highlight the supports and resources currently available to all staff:

--------------------------------------------------

New Academic Secretariat website
Our new website is available at http://www.ucd.ie/registry/academicsecretariat/index.html and has been divided into four key sections for ease of reference: University Regulations, Policy, Academic Committees and Programmes.  Please note that the majority of links to individual policies, regulations and guidance documents have changed, so if your unit website currently links to any of these documents please ensure that those links are updated before the start of term. You may find the A-Z section helpful when you are updating the links. Feedback on any aspect of the website may be forwarded to acsec@ucd.ie; we hope that you will find it a useful and accessible resource.

--------------------------------------------------

Academic Regulations 2012-2013
The Academic Regulations governing academic session 2012/13 are available at http://www.ucd.ie/registry/academicsecretariat/regs_home.htm.  Please click here for a brief overview of the changes to the Academic Regulations for 2012-2013, and click here for the version history which records all changes to the Academic Regulations.  Regulatory queries may be directed to acsec@ucd.ie.

-------------------------------------------------

Policy on Recognition of Prior Learning – September 2012
A new policy on Recognition of Prior Learning, as approved by Academic Council at its meeting of 25 April 2012, is effective from the start of the 2012/2013 academic session. The new policy and associated guidance documentation is available at http://www.ucd.ie/registry/academicsecretariat/rpl.htm. Policy queries may be directed to acsec@ucd.ie.

Programme Development, Approval and Review Framework (PDARF) 2012-2013
Submission deadlines and University Programme Board meeting dates for academic session 2012/13 are now available here Please note:

  • There are four cycles for programme-related approvals:

    New Programmes Cycle 1 and Cycle 2 only
    Cycle 3 for late submissions – click here for criteria for late submissions
    Programme Changes Cycles 1,2,3,4
    Derogation Requests Cycles 1,2,3,4
  • If you wish to submit a new programme proposal during Cycle 3, you should ensure that you make contact with Academic Secretariat (programmes@ucd.ie) well in advance of the Cycle 3 submission deadline. Late proposals may only be accepted where they meet the relevant criteria and have been flagged well in advance as unable to meet the Cycle 2 submission deadline;
  • Both electronic and signed, hard copies of programme approval forms should be submitted to the secretary of the UUPB/UGPB (agnes.legutko@ucd.ie) following Programme/Graduate School Board approval. Proposals which are not signed and submitted to the Academic Secretariat by the published submission dates will not be included on the University Board meeting agendas.
