New Microneedle Platform Technology Wins UCD Commercialisation Award

An early-stage medtech venture developing a new microneedle platform technology has won a UCD commercialisation award. The creator of Micro Needle Slow-Mo is Ellen Cahill, a PhD student in the UCD Medical Device Design Group within the UCD School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering.

Science Apprentice books from UCD inspire a new generation of scientists

This autumn, schoolchildren around Ireland collected a new series of books produced by UCD called Science Apprentice. The five books, which were available free with the Irish Independent in Tesco stores nationwide, delved into topics about Space, Energy and Resources, Food and Health, Computers and Data and how technology will underpin our Connected Futures.

Dearbhla Lenehan wins 2016 UCD Conway Festival gold medal

PhD student, Dearbhla Lenehan is announced as the 2016 UCD Conway Festival gold medal recipient for her research on the interactions between platelets and bacteria during the inflammatory response to bloodstream infections known as sepsis. This insight is vital to designing effective treatments to combat infections in future.

Green Technologies Researcher and Innovator Receives the NovaUCD 2016 Innovation Award

UCD has presented Professor Kevin O’Connor, a leading green technologies researcher and innovator, with the NovaUCD 2016 Innovation Award. The Award was presented to Professor O’Connor, UCD School of Biomolecular and Biomedical Science and UCD Earth Institute, by UCD President, Professor Andrew J. Deeks, during an event held at NovaUCD, the Centre for New Ventures and Entrepreneurs.

UCD Wins Knowledge Transfer Ireland 2016 Mature Spin-out Impact Award

UCD has won the Mature Spin-out Company Impact Award with Logentries at the 2016 Knowledge Transfer Ireland (KTI) Impact Awards. The Award was presented by Mary Mitchell O’Connor TD, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation at an event held last night at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, Dublin.

UCD and the Irish Red Cross have jointly developed digital applications aimed at improving the efficiency and effectiveness of humanitarian action

UCD President, Professor Andrew J. Deeks and Irish Red Cross Head of International Relations and Cooperation, John Roche, travelled to India recently to sign an agreement and to launch a pilot study with the Indian Red Cross. The pilot study will assess the impact a mobile crowd source application will have on the charity’s efforts to combat tuberculosis (TB) in India.

A new 3-year Innovation Partnership programme in food quality and safety was launched today at University College Dublin (UCD).The €1.7 million Enterprise Ireland and industry funded programme, Sequencing Alliance for Food Environments (SAFE), aims to develop a new predictive software toolbox to enhance food quality and safety approaches, nationally and with global reach, using environmental intelligence data.

New UCD research findings, published in Circulation, the highest impact journal in the cardiovascular field, indicate that replacing dietary carbohydrate with monounsaturated fat in otherwise obesogenic diets is better for the cardiovascular health.
