UCD Conway Institute of Biomolecular & Biomedical Research presents AccesScience ‘06 in O’Reilly Hall, University College Dublin at 7pm on Tuesday, March 7, 2006. Six postgraduate research students will battle it out in the grand final of this competition to explain their research without using scientific jargon. Contemplate how our body’s own defence mechanisms can cause kidney disease, hear how the bacteria responsible for foal pneumonia adapts to its environment as it moves “from dung to lungs” and discover how tanned bugs may hold the key to new drugs.
Pat Kenny will be the Chair on the night and the competition will be judged by a celebrity panel that includes the legendary GAA pundit Michael O’Muircheartaigh, TV3 entertainment correspondent Lorraine Keane, RTE radio and television presenter Shane O'Donoghue and Jenny Kelly, producer and presenter on Today FM. The Minister for Enterprise Trade & Employment, Micheál Martin will make presentations to the prizewinners following a reception. Admission to the evening is free and all are welcome.
Winners of the AccesScience poster competition for the best visual presentation of science will also be announced on the night and their posters will be displayed on DART trains and stations as part of the Science Track series.
