The Board of the National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training (NIBRT) is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Maurice Treacy as Chief Executive Officer. Dr Treacy joins NIBRT on 7th April from Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) where he held the position of Director of BioSciences and BioEngineering.

NIBRT is a world-class institute that provides training and research solutions for the bioprocessing industry in state of the art facilities located in UCD, Belfield.

Welcoming Dr Treacy’s appointment, Mr Joe Gantly, Chairman of NIBRT commented: “The Board of NIBRT look forward with enthusiasm to working with Maurice in achieving its mission in research and training in support of the bioprocessing industry in Ireland.”

Dr Treacy has wide ranging industry experience extending across research and development in a number of multinational organisations in Europe and the USA. He was appointed to the Directorate position in SFI in February 2004 with responsibility for ensuring Ireland’s biosciences and bioengineering research is globally compeitive and the subsequent discoveries are utilised to the social and economic benefit of Ireland.

Prior to his appointment in SFI he was the CEO and co-founder of Hibergen, a start up biotechnology company. He has extensive published research papers and is a co-inventor on greater than 80 USA patents.

Dr Treacy was awarded a PhD in Pharmacology from UCD in 1998 and completed a Post Doctoral Fellowship at the University of California at San Diego in 1992. He also holds an MBA from North Eastern University in Boston.

NIBRT is based on an innovative collaboration between University College Dublin, Trinity College Dublin, Dublin City University and Institute of Technology Sligo.
