University College Dublin and the City of Dublin Skin and Cancer Hospital Charity have provided funding to establish a new Charles Institute building which will be located between the UCD Conway Institute and the UCD Health Sciences Centre. The building is projected to be complete in 2010.
Integrated with the Dublin Academic Health Care (DAHC), the Charles Institute of Dermatology will be a facility for research and training in dermatology that will become a National and European centre of excellence. It will attract world leaders in dermatology and will lead to better patient care through the discovery of new treatments and therapies.
The new building will also host Systems Biology, which will combine expertise in systems engineering, mathematical and computational approaches with state of the art technology platforms. The focus is on bio-therapeutics and will harness the knowledge to develop novel approaches for drug target identification, personalised medicine and toxicity profiles.
Enabling works for the new building will commence in February 2009 with the diversion of existing services and the erection of hoarding.
