A research project at the Technology Research for Independent Living (TRIL) Centre was featured on Irish TV station, TV3 on 10 February 2009 as part of their Science Series. The focus was on TRIL’s ‘Building Bridges to Health, Learning and Fun’ research project which aims to increase the social activities and interactions of ageing populations by conducting ethnographic and technology based research.

According to TRIL’s Co-Director Prof Paddy Nixon, “What we are doing is trying to develop technologies in three areas: helping people keep connected to their community; helping people understand how their brain functions and keeping it active; and supporting people so they don’t fall and can remain physically active.”

At the heart of the TRIL research programme is the aim to help the older generation to stay safe and independent in their homes, “At the moment we are developing technology specifically to spot biosignals that might indicate that things are going wrong, so we can intervene and help people,” explained Prof Nixon.
