Professor Eoin O’Brien
Professor Eoin O’Brien (Professor of Molecular Pharmacology, UCD Conway Institute of Biomolecular and Biomedical Research) has been chosen as a Distinguished Member of the International Society of Hypertension (ISH) for 2010.
This prestigious award is granted to members who have given outstanding service to the Society, and who have made unusually distinguished contributions to experimental and clinical research in hypertension.
Dr Eamon Dolan, a colleague of Professor O’Brien, accepted the award on his behalf at the awards ceremony, which took place at the 23rd Scientific Meeting of the ISH in Vancouver, Canada on 29 September. Professor O’Brien said: “It is fitting that Dr Dolan accepted this award, I see it more as a tribute to my Irish co-workers in research over the past thirty years than as a personal achievement. It is also a tribute to those grant-awarding bodies that supported my research when there was scant money and when research was ‘unfashionable’, regarded as an esoteric pursuit rather than a personal achievement”.
Professor O’Brien is also Vice-President of the Irish Heart Foundation.
