The Higher Education Authority (HEA) and Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) are jointly undertaking a national review of High Performance Computing (HPC) facilities and capacity in Ireland and a parallel assessment of HPC user needs and views. As part of this review please complete the online survey available at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/HPCUsersSurvey.
The deadline for submissions is Friday 5 November 2010.
We would encourage you to complete this survey to ensure that the HPC requirements of the UCD community are addressed. As you will be aware, the provision of appropriate HPC services and facilities within the country is of national strategic importance.
The national review aims to identify and assess all sources of HPC capacity nationally (in both public bodies and private organisations). For the purpose of this review, the term ‘High Performance Computing’ refers to all computing clusters bought after 2005 costing more than €40,000 and / or containing more than 128 cores. It is focused on both tightly coupled computers and distributed or loosely coupled compute nodes.
This survey is relevant to researchers who currently use HPC services (regardless of who the provider is) and those who do not currently use HPC but feel such capability may be of use to them in their future work.
The results will be collated and used to compile a comprehensive picture both of the HPC capacity in the country and of the user need for such capacity, which will be made available to the International Steering Committee. It should be noted that similar surveys are being conducted among relevant stakeholders in the private sector to assess both capacity and need in this sector also.
