Conway PhD student, Lisa Shine took the winning photograph in The Irish Times image competition on the theme of 'Bang' while at a conference in Fort Lauderdale, Texas, USA in May 2010.
She captured the night sky after a thunderstorm from the rooftop of her hotel.
Lisa works in the research group of Conway Fellow, Dr Breandan Kennedy from UCD School of Biomolecular & Biomedical Science to identify the genes responsible for the function and survival of cone photoreceptors in the eye and generate disease models that can be incorpoated into drug screens.
