UCD RMS Expertise Profiles system wins new audiences

Friday, 22 July, 2011

The UCD-developed Research Management System (RMS) Expertise Profiles continues to attract new clients from universities seeking high performing systems to profile academic expertise. NUI Galway and the University of Limerick recently selected the system to showcase their academic expertise, joining University College Cork who also chose this system following a competitive tendering process in 2009.

RMS Expertise Profiles is a user-friendly, intuitive, web-based service giving academics the functionality to create, update and maintain their own expertise profile. The system was developed for UCD in 2006 by Liam Cleere and Dr Aoibheann Gibbons in UCD Research, through partnership with Vidatum Technologies Ltd, following consultation with UCD academic and administrative staff. It is marketed by our development partner Vidatum Technologies Ltd, under licence from UCD. Four of Ireland's top universities, UCD, UCC, NUIG and UL now use this common technology platform, making it a strong contender for a national system of academic expertise.

The RMS Expertise Profiles system has been in use in UCD for the past five years and continues to attract new users due to its ease of use and seamless integration with the UCD website, various citation databases and other university systems. It also provides the official record of research publications for the Annual Report of the President. The system continues to evolve every year and this year UCD academics will be able to communicate and promote their research through video on their home page.

The UCD RMS Expertise Profiles system was commercialised through NovaUCD in 2009, making it the first administrative system from UCD to have achieved commercial success and win additional revenues for the University.
