The UCD Geary Institute is Ireland's leading economic and social research institute and the most cited producer of economics research in Ireland, as measured by the Social Science Research Network. It is also ranked in the top 5% of economic institutions in the world.

 ABOUT THE GEARY INSTITUTE

The Institute supports frontier methods of investigation, leading to the very best in research publications, and provides objective analysis and solutions to address issues facing policy makers.

FUNDING

The institute was established in 2001 and has been successfully awarded over €7 million in Programme for Research in Third Level Institutions (PRTLI) funding, as well as external funding of over €18 million.

OUTPUTS

Since 2001, Geary researchers have published over 200 articles in leading international peer-reviewed journals, including the top 4 ranked journals in economics, the top ranked journal in statistics, the top ranked journal in public health and the top field journals in major areas of economic and social sciences.

COLLABORATION

The Institute has forged many international collaborations, most notably with the Harris School of Public Policy at the University of Chicago, through the appointment of Nobel Laureate Professor James Heckman as Professor of Science and Society at UCD. Collaborations at UCD include the School of Public Health and Population Sciences, UCD SPIRE and UCD Conway Institute.
