ABOUT HIIThe 560m sq purpose-built Institute was completed in 2002 and is currently home to 27 doctoral scholars and 2 post-doctoral scholars working on a wide range of research topics within the arts and human sciences.
To date, the institute has received over €6 million in funding from the Programme for Research in Third Level Institutions and The Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences (IRCHSS).
The HII is developing and implementing a series of interdisciplinary research programmes under the theme Culture, Society and Change, including a major research programme on issues of identity, memory and meaning in the twenty-first century.

HII-affiliated academics and researchers have published over 270 peer reviewed publications since its inception and the institute has an unrivalled 95% completion rate among its doctoral students.
The HII enhances the critical mass and international visibility of interdisciplinary research in the humanities at UCD by acting as a laboratory for the study of culture and the human experience. The HII serves as a driving force for knowledge transfer and sharing within UCD and in the context of the humanities and social sciences in Ireland and Europe.
