The UCD Conway Institute of Biomolecular & Biomedical Research is Ireland’s largest biosciences research institute, dedicated to promoting knowledge, health and economic advancement through excellence in biomolecular and biomedical sciences.
The UCD Conway Institute was founded in 1999 and the Institute’s 11,500m2 building opened in 2003.
Through world-class facilities and infrastructural support, UCD Conway enables researchers in the biosciences to compete successfully on the international stage and to place Irish bioscience in the global spotlight.
There are approximately 450 people working in the building at any one time, comprising over 60 Principal Investigators and their teams of postdoctoral researchers and graduate students.
UCD Conway was awarded approximately €92m through the Programme for Research in Third Level Institutions (PRTLI) funding across Cycles 1-3 and has since been awarded over €143m in grant income from sources including Science Foundation Ireland, Health Research Board and Wellcome Trust.

The knowledge gained in the UCD Conway Institute contributes to an ever more detailed understanding of the causes and effects of disease, leading to simpler and more reliable diagnostic tests, and new and more effective treatments for human and animal disorders.
The Centre for Synthesis and Chemical Biology in the UCD Conway Institute is a collaboration in the chemical sciences between University College Dublin, Trinity College Dublin and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
Molecular Medicine Ireland in the UCD Conway Institute is a collaboration in molecular medicine across the National University of Ireland Galway, the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Trinity College Dublin, University College Cork and University College Dublin.
