| Dr. Anne Nugent has worked in the area of human nutrition since 1999. She graduated with a degree in human nutrition from the University of Ulster at Coleraine, and then obtained a PhD from Trinity College Dublin in 2003 in the area of dietary fatty acids and immune function. After working in nutrition communication with the British Nutrition Foundation in London, Anne returned to Ireland to work as a nutritionist in industry with the National Dairy Council and Superquinn. As well as experience in human intervention trials and molecular biology, Anne has considerable experience of project outreach, food regulatory affairs and product development. She worked as scientific officer for the FP6 EU project, lipgene (www.ucd.ie/lipgene ) and is currently working on the National Adult Nutrition Survey and National Preschool Nutrition Survey. Anne is also a member of the teaching staff of the BSc in Human Nutrition |
| Her current research interests fall within two categories: molecular nutrition and public health nutrition. Her academic background focused on the interaction of dietary fatty acids on human immune function. Previously she worked as Senior Scientific Officer with the EU project lipgene. Lipgene examines the influence of diet and genotype in the development of the metabolic syndrome (www.ucd.ie/lipgene). The second area of interest centres on public health nutrition. As well as an interest in the dissemination of public health messages, she is involved national food consumption surveys, integrating dietary data with 'omics' data and modelling risk of exposure to food borne chemicals. |
