Biography

Lecturer in Soil Science. Researcher in anthropogenic soils, cultural interactions with soil, and soils in archaeology. Supporting research in UCD Soil Science on ecosystem processes in terrestrial ecosystems (especially forests) including biogeochemistry and greenhouse gas emissions.

Anthropogenic soils & soils in archaeology

Urban and human-modified soils, cultural interactions with soils, and soils in archaeology.

Boyne Catchment GIS Project (INSTAR) - Boyne catchment GIS Landscape study, including palaeobiogeochemistry of Thomastown bog, Co. Meath  (led by Dr. Steve Davis, UCD School of Archaeology; Heritage Council INSTAR Programme¿programme funding from Dept. Environment, Heritage and Local Government, Phase III, June to November 2010 in progress).

Collaboration with UCD School of Archaeology (Medieval Pilgrimage in the Wicklow Mountains: Medieval Templeteenaun and its Environment; Soils, Pollen & Plant Macrofossils (Dr. Aidan O'Sullivan). 

Informal enquiries are welcomed from suitably qualified persons wishing to pursue funding opportunities for research PhD studies on anthropogenic soils. Backgrounds in soil or earth sciences and archaeology are particularly suitable.
