Biography

Dr Conor Lucey is an architectural and design historian whose research interests are broadly centered upon the domestic architecture and material culture of eighteenth century Britain and Ireland. His current research, concerning the agency of English craftsmen in Ireland, has been grant aided by the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art (Yale University).

In 2010/11 he was awarded a National University of Ireland postdoctoral fellowship for his project 'Ornament and industry: the business of house decoration in Britain and Ireland, 1760-1830', the principal outcome of which was a volume of essays,
co-edited with Dr Christine Casey (TCD), entitled Decorative Plasterwork in Ireland and Europe: Ornament and the Early Modern Interior (2012). In 2009 he was engaged as postdoctoral researcher on a digital content project for the Irish Virtual Research Library and Archive (IVRLA), a component of the Humanities Institute of Ireland (HII) and funded by the Programme for Research in Third Level Institutions (PRTLI) Phase 3a. An expanded version of this visual archive, entitled Architecture of Dublin (University College Dublin), will soon be available via the ARTstor digital library.

He is the author of The Stapleton collection: designs for the Irish neoclassical interior, published in 2007 by Churchill House Press in association with the National Library of Ireland, and curated the accompanying exhibition, entitled Decorating the Georgian Interior, at the Irish Architectural Archive.

Conor Lucey is current editor of Irish Architectural and Decorative Studies, the journal of the Irish Georgian Society.
