Biography

John Parker attended NCAD, Dublin in 1985 before studying at the School of Architecture UCD where he received a 1st class honours degree in 1992. Moving to London, he worked for Jeremy Dixon, Edward Jones Architects working on the Darwin Study Centre, Cambridge and Royal Opera House, On his return to Dublin, John worked with De Blacam and Meagher as project architect for the Wooden Building Temple Bar (RIAI Silver Medal for Housing)

John joined Ahrends Burton and Koralek (ABK Architects) in 1998 becoming a director in 2001. As director he was responsible for the design of such projects as Offaly Civic Offices (Shortlisted for the RIAI Gold medal in 2008) Cork Civic Offices (RIAI Best Public Building 2006 RIBA award). He developed the office's knowledge of sustainable design, with projects winning the DoES best sustainable building 2003, RIAI Sustainability Award 2003 and 2008, LAMA Sustainability Award 2008. He presented at the PLEA Conference 2008 ¿Towards  Zero Energy Building.

He is a lecturer at the School of Architecture at University College Dublin and has been a visiting critic to Schools of Architecture including Limerick, (SAUL). DIT, and Cork as well as Oxford Brookes, University.

As well as being involved in the professional practice course as a Part III external examiner, John is a Director of ARAE (Architects Registration Admission Examination) which provides a route to the Register of Architects for those who have not attained the required academic qualifications.
