Biography

Jane-Ann is an IRCHSS PhD scholar researching social integration and community in rural Ireland under the supervision of Dr. Mark Scott and Prof. Alun Jones in GPEP. She began her academic career in UCD graduating with a B.A. in Sociology and History of Art in 2002.  Following this, she attained an MA in Migration and Ethnic Studies from Universiteit van Amsterdam in 2005.  As part of this programme, she completed her thesis which was entitled, A Different Frame: Immigration and The Irish Times, 1996-2003”.

Since returning to Ireland she has served as a research assistant on many migrant-related projects, including researching residential patterns, healthcare practice and provision, and immigrant integration. She has been particularly active within the Migration and Citizenship Research Initiative of UCD and has co-authored publications stemming from the initiative’s activities. Since commencing her PhD study, she has participated in the EDMIDI Intensive Programme 2008 and presented at the RGS-IBG conference of 2009. In addition to this, she has designed and taught her own undergraduate courses focussing on issues relating to social change and migration.
