Biography

Sheila has recently submitted her PhD thesis for examination.  She is based in the School of Architecture Planning and Environmental Policy and was awarded a scholarship from the Higher Education Authority through the Earth and Natural Sciences PhD Programme in 2011. Dr. Brendan Williams, Dr. Aoife Ahern and Dr. Enda Murphy supervised her doctoral research 'Land Use Transport Interactions:  Improving the Evidence Base with a Focus on Non-Work Travel'.  Sheila graduated from Dublin Institute of Technology in 2005 with an MSc in Sustainable Development having previously completed her undergraduate education at the University of York with a Bachelor of Engineering in Music Technology.
Sheila worked as a Project Manager and Research Manager in UCD Urban Institute Ireland from 2006 -2011 and subsequently as  Administrative Manager for SMART RAIL an FP7 funded project with 14 partners.  She was primarily responsible for the administrative, financial and day-to-day running  of the Urban Environment Project, a multidisciplinary, inter-institutional research project funded by the Irish Environmental Protection Agency.  She has also successfully managed to completion the Atlantic Energy Efficiency project.  She has been involved in proposal preparation, development and co-ordination of numerous bids to both Irish and European agencies, including IRCHSS, SFI and the European Commission. She was also involved in the management of the UCD Urban Institute Ireland Working Paper series and in supporting the development of URBIS, the UCD's spatial data repository.  Before taking up her position at UCD, Sheila worked in a variety of administrative and support roles in the film, media  and IT sectors.
