| Stomata form pores on leaf surfaces that regulate the uptake of carbon dioxide for photosynthesis and loss of water vapour during transpiration. Stomatal guard cells respond to a variety of environmental signals, resulting in turgor changes. Changes in guard cell turgor ultimately lead to alterations in the size of the stomatal pore. My laboratory uses the guard cell as a model system to study signalling mechanisms in plants. We are currently very interested in the possible role(s) of sphingosine-related compounds in plant signal transduction. |
