Biography:

Florence holds a first class honours 'Ingénieur en Agriculture' degree from Institut Supérieur Agricole de Beauvais (France) and a first class honours Masters degree in Environmental Resource Management from University College Dublin (Ireland). In 2006, she was awarded her PhD for investigating optimal practices for the afforestation of industrial cutaway peatlands. She holds a Prof. Diploma in EIA and SEA Management (2010, University College Dublin).

Florence has been working as project manager researching mainly peatlands for more than twelve years in University College Dublin, where she also lectures in: Peatlands and Environmental Changes; Ecological Modelling; Soil Science; Forestry and the Environment and has worked in collaboration with the EPA, Coford, Coillte, Bord na Móna and NPWS. She has published in international peer-reviewed journals and books and contributed to governmental guidelines. She is a member of Member of the Environmental Science Association of Ireland (ESAI), The Soil Science Society of Ireland (SSSI), the International Union of Forest Research Organisations (IUFRO) and she is currently vice-chair of Commission VII of the International Peat Society.

 
Florence has been working as a researcher in UCD since 1998
2011: Nominated as a Lead Author for the next Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories: Wetlands. 
2010-present: Project Director (and co-PI) of CALISTO (www.ucd.ie/calisto), an EPA-funded research project investigating greenhouse gas emissions from organic soils under grassland. 
2006-present: Project Manager of BOGLAND (www.ucd.ie/bogland), an EPA-funded research programme managed from UCD with links with other organisations: TCD, NUIG, Teagasc. The aim of the project is to develop a protocol for the sustainable management of peatlands in Ireland.
2000-2005: Project Manager of BOGFOR (www.ucd.ie/ferg/research/projects/bogfor), a research programme managed from UCD with links with funding organisation: Coford, Bord Na Mona and Coillte. The aim of the project is to investigate the development of a forest resource on industrial cutaway peatlands in Ireland.
2000-present: Occasional Lecturer. Includes developing and delivering a complete core-module course on Ecological Modelling (to Masters students in Environmental Resource Management); Also giving lectures in Peatlands, Peatland Forestry, Soil Management and Forestry and the Environment.

1998-2000: Research assistant with Prof. Ted Farrell, working on peatland projects including Bogfor.
