Florence holds a first class honours 'Ingénieur en Agriculture' degree from Institut Supérieur Agricole de Beauvais (France) and a first class honours Masters degree in Environmental Resource Management from University College Dublin (Ireland). In 2006, she was awarded her PhD for investigating optimal practices for the afforestation of industrial cutaway peatlands. She holds a Prof. Diploma in EIA and SEA Management (2010, University College Dublin).
Florence has been working as project manager researching mainly peatlands for more than twelve years in University College Dublin, where she also lectures in: Peatlands and Environmental Changes; Ecological Modelling; Soil Science; Forestry and the Environment and has worked in collaboration with the EPA, Coford, Coillte, Bord na Móna and NPWS. She has published in international peer-reviewed journals and books and contributed to governmental guidelines. She is a member of Member of the Environmental Science Association of Ireland (ESAI), The Soil Science Society of Ireland (SSSI), the International Union of Forest Research Organisations (IUFRO) and she is currently vice-chair of Commission VII of the International Peat Society.
