Biography

I am currently senior researcher within the Institute of Botany at the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, and Visiting Lecturer within the UCD School of Biology and Environmental Science at UCD. I was Junior Professor of Plant Ecology at the University of Giessen, Germany (2012-2013), and Research Fellow within the School of Agriculture and Food Science at UCD (2008-2011).
My research to date have focused on the ecology and biology of invasive species, on examining the impact of plant invasions on plant communities; examining the impact of agricultural activities on freshwater ecosystems; examining patterns of biodiversity and developing procedures to assess and analyse biodiversity in freshwater ecosystems; the ecology of predaceous diving beetles and their relationship with the vegetation; soil seed bank ecology.
I obtained a PhD in Botany in 2007, a postgraduate certificate in Research Methods in 2005, an MSc in Environmental Resource Management in 2001, from UCD, and a BA Economics from the University of Turin in 1999.
My main research interests include examining the impact of global environmental changes, including climate change, nitrification, and the introduction of alien species on ecosystems, testing mechanisms of species coexistence and plant competitive interactions, and on identifying the drivers of plant invasions.
