| Dr Gerard Corkery obtained his Diploma in Agricultural Engineering from I.T.Tralee in 2002. He subsequently went on to obtain his primary degree in BAgrSc Engineering Technology from University College Dublin in 2005. Dr Corkery was awarded a PhD degree in Engineering from Biosystems Engineering, UCD in 2010. His PhD focused on the use of biometrics as a method for identification and traceability of animals and poultry. During this time Dr Corkery worked on 2 DAFF FIRM funded projects, one of which is still ongoing. Dr Corkery was previously employed under the Charles Parsons Energy Research Programme within Biosystems Engineering and the SAFSVM, School Innovation Programme as a research manager. |
| Dr. Gerard Corkery research interests include applications within Smart Agricultural Systems including food and animal tracking and tracing involving smart sensors, biometric methods of identification and traceability within the agricultural sector. He has also an interest in sustainable energies and green technologies. Current Research Projects: Monitoring of Smart Sensing Technologies within poultry production with the aim of improving overall bird performance while minimising costs Completed Research Projects: FIRM-funded Project (2007-2010): Enhanced traceability of the poultry meat chain using biometrics and e-tracking technology (Avian BioTrack)
FIRM-funded Project (2005-2008): Development of a protocol for biometric-based animal tracking and tracing
