Biography

I graduated from UCD in 2003 with a BE degree in Chemical Engineering. Following this I conducted a PhD, investigating the operation of the Membrane Aerated Biofilm Reactor (MABR)  for the biological treatment of wastewater, which lead to a subsequent Post Doc project on this topic and the development of a patent for the in-situ measurement of the biofilm attached to the membrane.

 In  2008 I joined Veolia Enivronnment, spending 1 year in the United States of America working as a Process Engineer designing wastewater treatment plants for industrial clients and 2 years with Veolia Environnment Research and Innovation in Paris, France.  In 2011 I returned to the Biofilm group in UCD to continue work on the MABR, this time focusing on the scale up issues and investigating the full scale deployment of the technology.
In 2013 along with my co-founders Oxymem was Spun Out of UCD. Oxymem was the first company to offer the MABR as a low energy aerobic treatment system for Municipal and Industrial Wastewater. 

Currently I am an Assistant Professor in the School of Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering UCD, with a research focus on Energy and Environmental Systems.
