Biography

Dr. Mahfujur Rahman graduated in 2001 with a B.Sc. in Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and in 2006 with a PhD in manufacturing engineering from Dublin City University, Ireland. In his PhD work, he developed a novel low temperature plasma nitriding process and solid lubricant based duplex coating for low friction and wear resistance applications.

He is currently a Research Manager at UCD. In his earlier role, Dr Rahman worked as a senior R&D engineer (2012-2013) in the SolarPrint Ltd, Sandyford, Ireland. He also previously worked as a postdoctoral research from 2006 to 2008 and was later promoted to research fellow and team leader (2009-2011) in material development for solar energy application of the Solar Energy Conversion SFI SRC at University College Dublin, Ireland. In particular, he has worked on development of key technology for the novel nano-scale materials, processes and devices for the application of sustainable energy research (Solar water splitting, photo-electrochemical CO2 reduction, Dye-sensitized solar cell -DSSC and gas separation membrane). Dr. Rahman is also involved in project management, undergraduate / postgraduate student supervision, teaching and course co-coordinating  activities. He was involved in successfully developing thin film preparation (MOCVD/Solution base deposition method) and advance material characterization techniques.

He acted as an external expert evaluator for COST actions meeting (2013), co-chair (Nanosmat conference, 2010, France) and reviewer of five international journals. He has also worked with various world-class experts in solar hydrogen/electricity production and in thin solid film technology. Dr. Rahman has published over 75 research papers including more than 40 in various international peer reviewed journals and 2 book chapters
