| Dr. Debra Laefer has a dual background in geotechnical and structural engineering, in addition to her education in art history and her training in the restoration and preservation of historic structures for the U.S. National Park Service. Dr. Laefer has served as the principal investigator for grants from a wide range of sponsors from Science Foundation Ireland and the National Science Foundation (NSF) to the Federal Highway Administration, the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the National Center for Preservation Technology and Training. She is the author of over 30 papers related to the protection and repair of historic structures and for five years served as chair of the Heritage and Existing Structures' Comm. for the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute, through which she is conducting research with the J. Paul Getty Museum on the seismic protection of art objects. |
