Biography

My first third level studies were in Archaeological Conservation (Institute of Archaeology, University College London). Working as a conservator in Greece, Italy, UK and Ireland helped shape my interests in material culture, which I pursed further by studying archaeology at the universities of Edinburgh (MA) and Liverpool (PhD). In 1995 I was appointed Research Curator of the Classical Museum, UCD, and since 2006 Curator of the UCD  Classical Museum and Lecturer in Greek Archaeology.
My research interests are in Greek archaeology, especially  the Greek Bronze Age and early Iron Age, and the archaeology of the Ionian islands.
As curator of our museum I organized exhibitions on a large variety of themes with student involvement and initiated a project on the collections of classical antiquities in 18th and 20th century Ireland.
I am currently running a multi-period archaeological landscape project on the island of Kephalonia, Greece, which is funded by the Institute for Aegean Prehistory (INSTAP).
I have been involved for several years in the management of the Institute of Hellenic Studies at Athens (IIHSA) as UCD School of Classics rep on the Board, chair and company Director. In 2012 I was appointed IIHSA Director, a position which gives me a renewed opportunity to get more closely involved with Greek archaeology and the archaeology community in Greece. I remain Adjunct Lecturer in the UCD School of Classics and supervise my PhD students.
