I took a BA and MA from the University of Durham, followed by a PhD from the University of Bristol (2002). I have been lecturing at UCD since 2001, concentrating in particular on the ancient epic tradition and on Latin and Ancient Greek languages.
I am interested in the ancient epic tradition, particularly in the ways in which the post-canonical authors such as Ovid and Lucan engage with the canonical texts in self-consciously 'belated' ways. With respect to Ovid, I am also interested in the related themes of 'exile' and 'decline' which manifest themselves in his later poetry; and also in the way in which these themes recur in post-classical exiles, in particular Oscar Wilde.
