Biography:
Prof. Barry Smyth holds the Digital Chair of Computer Science in University College Dublin. He is the Director of CLARITY: The Centre for Sensor Web Technologies, an SFI-funded CSET (Centre for Science and Engineering Technologies). He is an ECCAI Fellow and also a co-founder, director, and Chief Scientist of ChangingWorlds Ltd. His research covers a broad set of topics within Artificial Intelligence including Case-Based Reasoning, Machine Learning, User Modeling and Planning with particular focus on so-called Personalization techniques, which looks at ways of combining ideas from these areas to develop information systems that automatically learn about, and adapt to, the needs of individual users.
