Biography

Ivan graduated in physics, specialising in geophysics from the Department of Geophysics, Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb, Croatia in 1997. For the next few years, he was working as a young researcher and professor's assistant at the same Department. His research in seismology, related to the estimation of the amplification parameters for the heterogeneous medium beneath the city of Zagreb by using synthetic seismograms, resulted in the degree of M.Sc in Geophysics in 2002. He also took part in a seismic anysotropy study. He has been with the School since February 2003 doing his PhD research in the area of volcano seismology (analysis and source inversions of long-period volcanic signals using numerical modelling of the waves propagation through a complex medium with topography). He completed his PhD in March 2008. After that, he was working on the SFI project "Towards improved imaging of volcanoes: Seismic source versus structure", and on the industry-related seismological problems through the collaboration with Tullow Oil Plc. He became full-time geophysics lecturer in November 2011. In February 2013, he started to take part in designing and teaching the MSc course in Petroleum Geosciences. His past and recent research involves different aspects of moment tensor inversions, time reverse imaging of volcanic sources, analysis of the near-field effect in seismology, applications of the full wavefield numerical simulations to near-surface volcanic source and propagation problems, instrumental studies (e.g., coupling between linear acceleration and tilt), source models of long-period (LP) volcanic seismicity, etc.
