School Of Earth Sciences
I am a senior lecturer (associate professor) in Queen's University Belfast, and an honorary visiting lecturer in the UCD School of Geological Sciences. But from 2015-2018 I am based in University of California, Berkeley, on a research sabbatical funded by the European Commission, Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions.
I am evolutionary biologist working on marine invertebrates, chiefly molluscs, using both living and fossil species to compare patterns of diversity in deep time and present environments. In UCD I collaborate with academics both in the School of Geological Sciences and the School of Biology & Environmental Sciences.
Previously, I worked in UCD (2003-2009) and managed a research programme called "Collections based Biology in Dublin" that linked research between UCD and the National Museum of Ireland (Natural History).
