Biography

Stratos is a structural geologist with a strong interest on 3D fault zone structure and its significance in hydrocarbon exploration and reservoir scale fluid flow. Stratos completed a PhD in 2016 on the 3D structure of normal fault zones in Ptolemais Basin, NW Greece, with the Fault Analysis Group in UCD, followed by a post-doctoral position working on the impact of Cenozoic deformation on potential hydrocarbon traps in Irish offshore basins. Currently, he is an iCRAG postdoctoral researcher working on the stratigraphic and structural evolution of the perched Mesozoic rift basins along the eastern margin of the Rockall Trough. From 2009 until now, he has been participating in several projects which cover applied research and seismic hazards.

Research

Research Interests

Faults occur on a broad range of scales with displacements varying over several orders of magnitude and geometries extending from those of fault systems down to fault zones and fault rock. Using high quality  outcrop and seismic data, Stratos investigates the structure of fault systems from km- down to mm-scale. A variety of generic aspects of faults are investigaed such as the scaling of faults and fault zones, fault segmentation and associated displacement transfer and the impact of mechanical stratigraphy on fault zone structure.
